S&P/Case-Shiller: Home prices rise 0.9% --

Eighteen of the metros studied posted price gains from July, an indicator in line with reports of a market turnaround in real estate. Only three cities posted negative annual returns, Atlanta with a 6.1% drop in prices, New York with a 2.3% decline and Chicago with a 1.6% decline.

The adjustable-rate mortgage hit 3.56% while the contract rate for the composite of all fixed and adjustable-rate mortgage loans fell 1 basis point to 3.55% in September compared to 3.56% in August.

Wells Fargo mails checks to thousands with FHA-backed mortgages --

The checks came with a letter informing recipients they had previously paid unnecessary mortgage fees. When the borrower cashes the check, they lose the ability to sue the lender for the practice.
